EC announces Assembly poll dates in five states | Uttar Pradesh will go to assembly elections in seven phases, while elections in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa will be held in a single-phase | In Uttar Pradesh, with 403 Assembly constituencies (85 reserved for SCs), will witness polling on February 4, 8, 11, 15, 19, 23 and 28 | In Uttarakhand, with 70 constituencies (of which 13 are reserved for SCs and 2 for STs), will go to polls on January 30 | In Punjab, with 117 constituencies (of which 34 are reserved), will witness polling in single phase on January 30 | In Goa, with 40 constituencies (of which only one is reserved for SC), on March 3 | In Manipur, with 60 constituencies (of which one is reserved for SCs and 19 for STs), will go to polls on January 28 | The counting for all the states will be held together on March 4 | The model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect |

Hisar Loksabha By Election

Over 13 lakh voters will exercise their franchise at 1506 booths on October 13 in Hisar Loksabha bypoll. The Hisar Loksabha seat had fell vacant after Bhajan Lal died in June this year. Out of the total 13 lakh voters, 7,23,133 are male and 5,96,238 female. Hisar constituency has nine assembly segments - Adampur, Uklana, Narnaund, Hansi, Barwala, Hisar, Nalwa, Uchana Kalan and Bawani Khera.

After scrutiny of nomination papers 48 candidates are in the fray for the seat. These include three candidates of recognized national and state political parties, seven candidates of registered political parties other than national and state political parties, besides 38 independents.

The list of validly nominated candidates of recognized national and state political parties included Ajay Singh Chautala of Indian National Lok Dal, Kuldeep Bishnoi of Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) and Jai Parkash of Indian national Congress.

Those from other registered political parties are Anil of Lok Jan Shakti Party, Om Parkash of Bharatiya Sant Mat Party, Deepak Gupta of Smast Bharatiya Party, Duli Chand of Lok Parivartan Party (DC), Ram Jas of Dalit Kranti Dal, Virender of Republican Backward Congress and Sudesh Kumar Aggarwal of Smast Bharatiya Party.

The independents include Anil Kumar, Anoop Singh, Atam Parkash, Om Parkash, Karamvir, Kuldeep Malik, Krishan, Jagpal, Jai Singh, Jeet Singh, Dariya Singh, Sant Dharamvir Chotiwala, Narender Nath, Naveen Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Pardeep Singh, Baljit, Mahender Singh, Ranjit Singh,Raj Kumar, Rajesh Kumar Jindal, Ram Niwas, Lachhman Dass, Ved Parkash, Sher Singh, Satbir, Surajmal, Surjeet Singh, Sushil Nidhi, Sushila Devi, Hava Singh, besides five candidates named Kuldeep and two, Ved Pal.
